Credit Problems

In 2016, 912,389 people were issued with a CCJ; an increase from 734,205 in 2015. In contrast the total number issued in 2008; the height of the financial crisis, was 830,675. The average value of a CCJ fell to £1,711 – 16 per cent down on the year before. In 2008 the average CCJ was £3,624 – more than double last year’s figure.

Contractors

1.88m people now work on a contract; an increase of 35% in the last 3 years. But this rise is not limited to traditional contractor roles like IT and tradespeople, there has been an increase in non traditional roles too.  There has also been a 41% rise in female contractors as well as a 26% increase in people aged 16-29.

Self Employed

In 2015 there were around 4.6 million self-employed workers in the UK; just one year later the figure had risen to about 4.8 million. Today the self-employed account for just over 15 per cent of the total workforce. The growth in total employment in recent years has been driven in part by rising levels of self-employment.
